In April, BAZZAAL is highlighting Earth Day all month long, and there is no better way to celebrate other than introducing our vegan, all-natural beauty box curated by none other than Sissel!

Sissel is a Korea-based, content creator who has a knack for natural beauty. In this interview, we will dive deeper into her years as a content creator, life in Korea, and of course....skincare!!!!'

Let's start from when you first started your YouTube channel! Can you tell us what inspired you to join the online skincare community?

When I was a teenager, I loved makeup and playing around with different looks. Because of that, I was introduced to Korean beauty around 10 years ago. As I started posting videos about the Korean makeup world, I naturally got my eyes on the skincare side of that. Since then, I have been hooked. As I’m growing older, I have learned so much more about my skin, products, health, and the environment - which is why my passion now lies with clean, green, and vegan beauty.

Can you share with us your skin type and main skin concerns?

I have a combination to dry skin with a tendency to get pimples. Growing up I had acne, so all of my favorite skincare products are now non-comedogenic, yet extremely hydrating. I love heavily moisturizing my dry skin but also knowing when to use products that won’t clog my pores.

Could you tell us a little about your Nordic heritage and how this has impacted your perception of beauty?

Scandinavia is at the sustainable and green forefront in a lot of areas, and skin and body care are no different. I’ve been raised with the “less is more” mindset, and coming from modern minimalism, it has definitely affected the number of products I use daily. I value high-quality and trustworthy products that come from brands with a good mission, as well as full transparency when it comes to ingredients. All the things my mom has taught me growing up.

You are now living in Seoul. Did your move to Seoul change your relationship and perspective with beauty and skincare?

I have always been going all out when it comes to my beauty regime, so I think the only difference coming to Korea was that I no longer was the one with the most intense routine. Taking care of your skin to extreme lengths is very welcomed in Korea, so I always feel inspired to widen my horizons.

Has the pandemic changed the way you approach your skincare, makeup, and self-care rituals?

I’ve valued my bare-faced days since the pandemic started. Going out and having fun with no makeup, just my skincare, has been so good for my skin. As a bonus, my skin is treating the mask better this way as well.

What is your favorite skincare “trend” as of now in South Korea?

I love skip-care! Having the old 10-step skincare routine is not necessary, and mainly exists for consumerism to thrive. I am so happy to see people valuing fewer products that are of higher quality.

Clean beauty is an ongoing theme throughout your YouTube videos, do you also apply this to your personal lifestyle, and if so, how?

Absolutely, I try my best to live more consciously. I eat mostly vegetarian, and I
always prioritize organic produce. Furthermore, I always keep in mind to leave as little of a footprint as I can daily. Of course, no one’s perfect, but consciousness is the most important thing we can focus on.

How do you decide which brands to partner with? What values are most important to you in a brand partnership?

I won’t work with a brand with whom I don’t see eye-to-eye. Having a following is a big responsibility, and I know that my words have power online. I want to direct my followers to brands that have a green vision and add more benefits to the world than what they take in the production and sourcing of their products.

Tell us something that people may not know about you?

I’m an open book. I think my followers sometimes know me better than I know
myself!

What’s next for you? Do you have anything in store for the near or far future?

I am planning on enrolling in a Dharma Coaching Institute in the future. I would love to be able to be a voice and a helping hand for my followers to help them find their greater purpose. It is my goal to start this in 2022, and I am so very excited!
